We are building a HOME IN POLAND FOR TEENAGE MOTHER AND NEWLY-INDEPENDENT MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN.
We have homes for single mothers in Poland, but there are still no homes for teenage and self-reliant mothers and their children. The realities show that this is an extremely needed initiative, filling an important gap in the social welfare system that few people are aware of.
A minor who becomes pregnant does not have parental rights after the child is born. Her family can take care of the baby, but if she comes from a pathological home that she cannot count on to help, or has been thrown out due to her pregnancy, she could lose her child which would be placed in a foster home. The same thing happens when girls from an orphanage or a correctional facility become mothers. Even if the mother declares her willingness to keep the child and raise them. Her opinion in this situation may not be taken into account.
If for an orphanage, a teenage mother with a small child is a problem, she can be placed in a home for single mothers. These are usually filled with adult women and there is no educational or other forms of support for the young girls in maturing to motherhood.
That is why we want to build a house for teenage and newly-independent mothers and their children. A home where teenage mothers will no longer have to worry about being separated from their babies and where girls will receive adequate support in growing into the most important and difficult role in life - being a mother.
Our house is to be different than all the others and we want a maximum of 6 girls to live in it at one time, because it is to be a HOME, not a facility. It will be approximately 500 m2. Each mother will have her own room and a small, separate room for the baby. Each will have its own bathroom. Additionally, the house will have a kitchen (shared), a dining room, a living room and a place for caretakers, a laundry room and a warehouse. The house is being built in Warsaw, but it will accept girls from all over Poland. Our specialists, using the best world models, develop a model of its functioning in order to provide young mothers not only a home, but also the best place for their development and maturation.
The UNAWEZA Foundation is the partner of this initiative, implemented in cooperation with the Po DRUGIE foundation, which works in Warsaw with youth and young adults at risk of social exclusion. The Po DRUGIE foundation was the first to notice that in Poland there the conditions for young mothers and children at institutions were very poor. For several years, it has been trying to change the regulations.
Our initiative is supported by famous women who have experienced early motherhood themselves. One of them is Marta Wojtal, a celebrity photographer.
By changing one person's life, you change the whole world!
TOGETHER WE CAN GIVE THEM WINGS!
